Our services
The situations that bring most of our English-speaking clients here: buying or selling a home, an inheritance with heirs abroad, residency paperwork, or a community of owners that has stopped working.
Civil Law
Family matters, inheritance of Spanish property and contract disputes — including estates where the heirs, or the will, are outside Spain.
Property Law
Buying, selling or letting a home in Spain, and the tax that comes with it. We explain what you are signing before you sign it.
Commercial Law
Setting up or running a business in Spain: company formation, commercial contracts and the obligations that come with trading here.
Property Management
Running your community of owners: accounts, meetings and minutes you can actually follow. María José is a registered property administrator (no. 2268).
Immigration
NIE, residency, renewals and nationality — including the paperwork that changed for British citizens after Brexit. Handled in English from start to finish.
Criminal Law
We defend your rights after an arrest, a complaint or in court, and represent you if you are the victim of a crime.
A firm committed to your case
Cortés Castán is a law firm founded and led by María José Cortés Castán, a solicitor with over 15 years of experience in Torrox, Málaga. Our priority is to offer a personal approach and legal solutions tailored to each individual — no red tape, no distance.
About usLegal help in English, across the Axarquía
Most people who find us are not visiting Spain — they live here. They own a house in Torrox, Nerja, Cómpeta or Frigiliana, and at some point they run into something that only works in Spanish: a notary appointment, an inheritance, a demand from the community of owners, a renewal that has changed since Brexit.
Advice in your language, under Spanish law
You explain the problem in English and get the answer in English — not only in the meeting, but through the paperwork that follows. Immigration files are run in English by the colleague who handles them day to day. What we apply is Spanish law, and María José answers for it as a registered member of the Málaga Bar.
A small office, so you deal with the same person
Three of us work here and María José leads every matter. You will not be handed down a chain of case handlers, and you will not be charged to find out whether we can help.
